Welcome to the Aaby Ranch Website!

Located in Chino Valley just north of Prescott, Arizona, Aaby Ranch is family owned and operated.  Mike and Marilyn Aaby established the Ranch to pursue their dream of raising and owning high quality performance horses. Aaby Ranch has a wide variety of horses available:  reining, cutting, working cow, roping, or trail and we offer our horses at prices to fit any budget.

Originally from Iowa, Mike and Marilyn grew up on farms with horses as a natural part of their lives.  Married for over 36 years, the couple has 3 children: Wendy, Carrie and Mike, Jr.  Carrie started riding horses at a very early age and has been riding and showing ever since.  Carrie, her husband Ariel Zambrano, Jr., and their daughter Madalyn are a big part of the Aaby Ranch team.  Together the family strives to raise foals with great bloodlines that are versatile and affordable.

Reining

Some of the first performance horses purchased by Aaby Ranch were Reining Horses: A Little Extra Rum, WR Indicative, and Hot Gunfire.  Carrie trains with Marcy Ver Meer-Kevil and together Carrie and Marcy have won  numerous championships on our horses:  2002 NRHA Western Affiliate Limited Non Pro Championship, Reserve in the Intermediate Non Pro Affiliate Champions, and were the first to win the Top Sail Cody CRHA Challenge perpetual trophy.   A Little Extra Rum also won the AzRHA year-end awards for all three non-pro classes.

Working Cow Horse/Roping

In 2003, Aaby Ranch purchased Barnies Bro, a 1993 Gelding that has qualified for the AQHA World Show in Working Cow Horse and Heading and Heeling several times.  In the 2005 season, Ariel is showing Bro and we are all so excited that they are on their way to qualifying for another AQHA World Show.

Cutting

Mike and Marilyn became fascinated with Cutting because of the excitement and athletic ability of cutting horses.  The first cutting horse Aaby Ranch purchased was Diablo Tejon, “Doc”,a trusty, dependable horse that takes care of Mike in the Cutting pen.  In December 2004, Aaby Ranch purchased  RW Hail Mary from Waltons Rocking W Ranch in Texas. We put Mary with Mike Wood of Mike Wood Performance Horses, Scottsdale, AZ and after only 2 weeks, they were finalists in the Aged Events at Del Mar, CA.  Mary is also being shown by Ariel and Mike Wood in the AzCHA Events and Aged Events throughout the West.  To date Mary has earned over $60,000.

We welcome you and your family to call or stop by to visit and tour the ranch.
